RW uses authentic English and French designs and does all the work by hand. He spends as much as a 100 hours making just one of the ornate axes, inlaying the brass and German silver by hand and hand finishing the curley maple handles. The latter wood is used because of its attractive grain pattern.
A total of 500 tomahawks were made by RW on order from the blue ribbon commission in charge of the celebration to honor the 150th birthday of the Texas Rangers. These were the first commemorative tomahawks in history, all tremendous collector's items today. |
