RW Wilson became known as Tomahawk" because of his skills and talents as a fine tomahawk maker and he was asked to make all of the tomahawks for the movie "Jeremiah Johnson" in 1972.
RW has been a custom knifemaker for over 30 years. He was instrumental in getting many famous and successful knifemakers in this ever-growing art and he continues to do so. He is willing to share his talents and experiences with anyone who is serious about learning this unique craft. He does not charge for the lessons he teaches, but you will not get a certificate of achievement, or a diploma, or a graduation ceremony. What you will get is the opportunity to have R.W. share his vast knowledge of what makes a great knifemaker by instructions and hands-on experience. Nothing pleases R.W. more than to help others fulfill their dreams in life, especially knifemaking.
R.W. is a self taught knifemaker. He also sells the supplies that he uses for knifemaking. Most of the supplies he handles are listed in the
Knifemaking Supplies section of this site. If you need something that you don't see listed, call R.W.. Chances are that if he doesn't have it, he can tell you where to get it.
R.W.'s classes are one-of-a-kind. Besides sharing his knifemaking talents, he will also share many humerous stories of events that have happened to him throughout his knifemaking career. R.W. Wilson feels that when you have a God given talent, you should Pass it On! That is why there is no charge for his classes. Classes are limited to three people per class, so that each person can and will receive personal attention. The total cost for each person depends on individual travel expenses. All materials are provided at no charge. You must call and make arrangements for these classes, because R.W. works a full time job at Weirton Steel and attends a lot of shows on the weekends. He shows his knives and supplies at shows all over the United States. He does not do any Sunday work.
Usually within one and a half to two days, he will have you grinding and you will feel fairly confident about knifemaking. If you so desire you may stay at R.W.'s house while taking the classes, and he will even treat you to some of his home-cooked food. As you will soon see, he is a man of many talents.
